filming in the media studies room

We found the perfect room to film the camera flashing on the self timer. It was dimly lit and the little light that was let in gave a more creepy look to the camera.
This is also going to be the same room we are going to film the scene with the wall full of the stalkers pictures of his victim.

Student Thriller Example

It is effective in the way that the guy appears later after the woman's walked past, gives sense of mystery. The voice over adds effect and tension and suspense, It also gives information about possibilities that could happen later on in the story line, without giving away too much. Music is well mysterious. Lighting helps, slight darkness, but not total so doesn't drift into horror, Dim lighting

location trouble

we were pondering about where to do shot 8 and 9 where the cameras shows a series of photos on a wall. we walked around college, knowing that if we found somewhere within college it would make it easier to film.
we found the media studio, where there are a series of rooms which are painted various colours and there was a room which was painted black, perfect for the scenes.

Final Animatic

Here is our final animatic:

We have now added some music and effects to it by using zooming in and out and sliding frames. The music is designed to fit with a mysterious storyline which is what we are aiming to create.

animatics

We captured our storyboard for the animatic, and placed it into final cut, shortening each clip. we now need to make some music for the shots and also make it clear when we want the camera to zoom in, and do other various shot types.

characteristics of a good thriller opening

It has to thrill the viewer and create suspense.
Thriller locations have to be in eerie places.
Thrillers are mysterious and intriguing. They make you want to watch more.
Right from the word go the opening has to keep watcher interest throughout and keep you on the edge of your seat continuously.
Dont give away too much of the plot of the film in the opening scene. Keep it mysterious.
Dramatic and effective music in keeping with the action.

Research into similar thriller openings:

This opening is really slow and slowly builds up your heart rate. It intrigues you to think what is going on and why are the men acting like robots/zombies. The music with the film makes it very eerie.
Our thriller opening will have to be slow and eerie to intrigue the viewer. It also has to be creepy like this one to make it into a good thriller.

initial ideas

name: flash

story: mystery character stalks teenage girl and puts images of her on a wall

shot ideas:

1 - every third/second shot is middle shot of camera on tripod (self timer on)
2 - last shot is the flash and photo being taken - gos to white and name of movie comes up 'flash'
3 - dark room; image being developed in developer/wash/fix
4 - placing image on a wall along with many other images of the same girl - some of which have been circled
5 - shot of somebody looking at film real; holding up to the light as if you're the person looking.

6 - shot of girl looking over her shoulder, mysterious man breathing heavily - image being developed is of her turning round and noticing.

rough order: 1 3 5 3 4 1 6 2
